The three strands of coaching opportunities

Disability Sport Wales has many opportunities for coaches to join our work force in a variety of sport and / or with any of the different impairment groups.

The courses run by Disability Sport Wales tend to fall into one of the following three categories:

·      Disability Equity Training - An ideal course for those new to the field of disability sport.  An introduction to the area of disability including an overview of terminology, an exploration of the groups experiences of disability, a brief look at what disability is and how individuals are effected including an overview of most recent legislation.

·        Sport Specific Courses - Courses run by the National Governing Bodies for sport that provide a specific level of training for each sport.  These courses are not necessarily disability specific although some governing bodies may have a disability module.

·        Disability Specific Training - There are currently training opportunities available that provide specific information and guidance regarding working alongside Deaf / Hard of Hearing sports people and a similar course for coaches and volunteers working alongside people with visual impairments.  These courses provide coaches and volunteers with an understanding of the particular barriers faced by sports people with these impairments as well as providing practical guidance on how to adapt both activities and coaching styles to make them appropriate and accessible for all.
