19 year old Gemma Nuton received the Highly Commended certificate for Young Volunteer of the Year Award at the recent Pembrokeshire Volunteering Awards 2012 at the Pavillion Withybush Showground. Gemma has been a volunteer with Sport Pembrokeshire since October 2011, she volunteers at Crymych Panther Boccia club and Pembrokeshire Hurricanes Wheelchair Basketball club. Both clubs are for youngsters and adults with disabilities. Crymcyh Panthers meet every Wednesday evening and Gemma attends all sessions; most of the members have physical disabilities and some also have speech impairments.  Gemma was very confident from day one and her interaction with the members was evident.  Boccia is a complex sport and Gemma quickly began to understand the rules.  Gemma has refereed at both the Pembrokeshire school and adult boccia event, starting at 8.30 am by helping to mark out the court and continuing until 2.30pm on both days. pembs
