ARROWS FLY IN MEMORY OF ARCHER KEN
A Memorial inter schools archery competition has been organised for pupils with disabilities.
The late Ken Herman used to help the pupils at these sessions before he passed away suddenly more than a year ago. Those involved in the sport locally thought it would be fitting to have an annual competition in his memory.
The first Ken Herman Memorial Shoot for 5 x 60 schools that have pupils with disabilities signed up for the archery sessions was held at St Clears Leisure Centre in conjunction with Three Counties Archery Club and Carmarthenshire Disabled Sports and Activities Club.
Schools participating were Ysgol Y Gwendraeth, Ysgol Tregib and Queen Elizabeth High School. The teams were made up of five pupils from each school and one archery instructor per team. The instructors were Dai Davies, Tilly Block,Geraint Lewis, Kiel Davies and Dave Evans as field captain and judge.
Thirty arrows were shot per pupil - a total of 150 per team. The maximum score per arrow was nine points with a maximum overall score of 360 per pupil. Each pupil shot a distance of 13 yards at an 80cm target.
