About Conwy Whales Swimming Club – The Club was formed in 2002 with just 6 members and 4 volunteers. We now have 43 members and 30 volunteers. The Clubs' aims are to provide children with disabilities the opportunity to participate in swimming regardless of their disability. Swimming can be of particular benefit to children with disabilities as it promotes mobility, flexibility, strength, confidence and independence.
Each child is assessed as to the help they will need and if necessary, 1-1 support within a group is given.
The Club has its own Annual Gala where the children compete in either standard races i.e. backstroke, frontcrawl, breaststroke and butterfly (for this they are time banded) and/or fun races. The Gala is always very popular with the children and is followed by a buffet and presentation ceremony.
The Club is run by qualified ASA Swimming Teachers (for people with disabilities). Everyone involved in helping with the Club from Teachers to the Club Committee are volunteers. The Club is always happy to take on new volunteers and offer support and training opportunities.
