Caerphilly
As a member of the Caerphilly Sports Development Team I have a key role in ensuring that everyone is given an equal opportunity to take part in sport and physical activity. One of the key successes has been working with the team to create partnerships across a wide range of sports from swimming to football, hockey to rugby. The links within the team has meant that we can create opportunities for people to take part in activities specifically designed for them and also to become integrated in mainstream activities.
One of the big successes of the summer has been the hockey programme. The sessions provided skills and games for children with a disability, which ran alongside the hockey summer programme. The WHU Hockey Activators lead a variety of sessions supported by Hockey Club Development Officer Beverly Rogers and myself, Paul Taylor.

Creating Aquatic Oppotunities - disability swimming across Caerphilly
22/01/2008
Caerphilly Swim Development in partnership with the Disability Sports Development Officer, Paul Taylor, who is joint funded by Caerphilly County Borough Council and the Federation of Disability Sport Waleshave been working to create swimming lessons for children with a disability across the local authority. Each of the six leisure centre swimming pools within Caerphilly County Borough have a compressive swimming lesson programme. Before, they were unable to take children with a disability into this programme because of the level of training needed. Caerphilly CBC made a commitment to train members of staff within each centre to cater for people with a disability in order to expand the swimming programmes. Now, all 6 leisure centres have a specific disability session, and the times can be found in the at this link
The development of the aqautic plan for Caerphilly County Borough has a clear focus on including everyone in a range of water based activities. Over the next 3 years the development of swimming and other aqautic activites will have increased support form both Paul Taylor and the Swimming Development Officer, Nicola Green.
