Cochrane wins first senior title.

05/08/2008

14 year old Wheelchair tennis player Phil Cochrane who trains at Newport Tennis Centre secured his first senior title at the weekend by winning the men’s second draw singles title at the Mercedes Open ITF 1 Series event on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour held in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Phil played consistently good tennis throughout the week dropping just 4 games on his way to the final where he defeated home favorite Dutchman Jelle Oosterwijk 6-0 6-2.

Phil’s latest success has seen his senior world ranking rocket to a new high of 151. Phil’s coach from Newport Tennis Centre Rebecca Strelzyn said" Phil’s progress up the senior rankings is remarkable given he is only 14 years old but is no surprise to me given the hard work and commitment he shows in training".
