Vale of Glamorgan

Disability Sport Wales is a national sports development programme aimed at increasing the number of people with disabilities taking an active part in sport and physical activities through the creation of quality community based sporting and recreational opportunities. The programme is a joint initiative between the Sports Council for Wales, the Federation of Disability Sport Wales and 22 local authorities.

In the Vale of Glamorgan there are a number of clubs that offer a range of participatory opportunities for people with disabilities. These clubs range from football and boccia to gymnastics and bowls. Many of the clubs have worked with the Vale's sports development team to ensure that they offer high quality sessions, with qualified coaches and use of appropriate equipment. There are also opportunities to compete at local, regional, national level and above depending on the clubs involvement. To find out more about these clubs click onto the 'Clubs Directory' or 'Calendar' at the top of the page. There is also a 'News' page where I plan to post the latest news about disability sport in the Vale, the South East Wales region and any National projects.

A focus area in the Vale of Glamorgan is the Disability Sport Forum, consisting of local community members who have an interest in disability sport whether it be as a coach, official, club member, service provider, teacher or participant. The forum provides an excellent opportunity to share good practice and to make informed decisions regarding further work priorities of the Disability Sport Wales Development Officer.

If you would like further information about Disability Sport Wales, you would like to become a volunteer and work with clubs, you are interested in coaching or would like to join the Disability Sport forum, please do not hesitate to contact me on the address given bottom left of this page.

I look forward to hearing from you,

Simon
