Cardiff
Welcome to the Cardiff page on the Disability Sport Wales website.
My name is Jo Coates-McGrath and I am the Disability Sport Wales Officer for Sport.Cardiff. I am based at County Hall in Cardiff Bay in the Parks and Sport Department.
Within Cardiff there is a wide range of sporting provision for disabled people of all ages including tennis, boccia, cricket, wheelchair basketball, karate, cycling, swimming, plus many more.
Whether you are looking for a healthy lifestyle, to socialise and make new friends, keep fit, or strive to be a future participant in the Paralympics, Deaflympics or Special Olympics there should be something there for you.
If you are a coach or a volunteer there is also the UK Disability Inclusion Training Course (UK DIT) which is currently available in Wales. Courses run several times a year so please contact me for upcoming dates.
In order to help support clubs deliver good quality sessions, Disability Sport Wales have intorduced insport. This is a four tiered (ribbon, bronze, silver, gold) identification and accreditation process which and sports club can go through to show they are committed to providing and delivery inclusive sport. Please contact me if your club is already providing sporting opportunities for disabled people, or would like to in the future. Look out for the insport logo alongisde the club details. This highlights the clubs that have already gained the accreditation.
Both the Australian and South African Paralympic Teams are holding their training camps in Cardiff and this presents a unique opportunity for local people to volunteer to provide support at the camps and be part of 2012!
If you would like further information on disability sport in Cardiff as a participant, club, coach, or volunteer, then just give me a call or send me an email. (contact details bottom left of this page).

Counting Down the Days to the Paralympics
11.02.2012
Saturday February 11th marks the 200 day countdown to the Paralympics and Sport.Cardiff will be celebrating this momentous day by trying to get 200 people to try a Paralympic Sport.
The event will be taking place from 9am at the Sainbury's store on Colchester Avenue in Cardiff
Sainsbury's are supporting the event and staff at the store will all be joining the fun and dressing in sports kit for the day in a bid to raise even more awareness.
Sainsbury’s are an official partner for the Paralympic Games and the first ever Paralympic Games-only sponsor. The company's landmark commitment to the Paralympic Movement is the largest sponsorship ever of a Paralympic Games.
So if you fancy having a quick game of boccia while you shop or showing off your wheelchair basketball skills on your way to the Cafe, or having a quick game of table tennis before getting some petrol, pop down to Sainbury's and give it a go. Anyone is welcome to take part and let's see if we can reach the target of 200 participants!
