Welcome to the Torfaen page for Disability Sport Wales, my name is Holly Hinchey and I am the Disability Sport Wales Development Officer for Torfaen. Although I am a development officer, I have been involved with disability sport as a volunteer, coach and committee member for a number of different clubs.
I'm currently the head coach of the CELTs Wheelchair Basketball Club and for my efforts as a coach with the CELTS wheelchair basketball club, I won the Welsh Coach of the Year, Coach to Disabled Performers Participation Award. For this reason I am excited to be given the opportunity to encourage others to get involved as a coach /volunteer and participant.
Improving the provision and standards of sports available locally for people with disabilities within Torfaen is high on my work program, whether it is for competition, for general health benefits and or the social interaction everyone can achieve through sport.
Within the locality there are a number of opportunities for people to volunteer/coach and participate on. These clubs will be undertaking an audit over the next month to identify how I can further develop the Torfaen disability sports program, including where there is scope for new and exciting sports clubs.
If there is a sport or activity you would like to try or have a suggestion on a new disability sports club to be added to the Torfaen disability sports program or if you would like to get involved as a coach/volunteer, participant please feel free to contact me.
New clubs are opening all the time as the facilities become available and as more coaches/volunteers get involved, by continually checking the web site or contacting me on the numbers below you can check if we have something suitable for you.
If you think you would like to volunteer your services to a club there is always opportunities with the clubs in Torfaen and I can assist in obtaining training for you to become a qualified coach/volunteer in your chosen sport/activity.
I am available for existing and new clubs to assist in the completion of grant application forms for such things as Community Chest and Sports Match Minor Grant Applications, I also have a number of current catalogues available for correct costing etc.

Wheelchair Basketball Road Show

Cwmbran Harriers Athletics Club is starting a new session on Monday 1st September 2008, 6.30-7.30pm at Cwmbran Stadium Athletics Track and will run ever week.
Sessions are coached by experineced, qualified coaches and are open to participants aged 11-18 years with cerebral palsy, visual and hearing impairments and people with a learning disability.
Sessions are based around fun track and field skills and games, sessions cost £1.50 per person with a leisure card, £1.75 without a leisure card.
