Gwynedd

My name is Marcus Politis and I would like to welcome you to the Gwynedd pages of the Disability Sport Wales website.

Gwynedd has a wide range of sporting provision for disabled people of all ages including, boccia, football, wheelchair basketball, trampolining, athletics, tandem cycling, swimming, equestrian, paralympic shooting, VI shooting, outdoor activities, archery and Inclusive Fitness within our Leisure Facilities.

We are fortunate to have the Arfon Tennis Centre Fitness Room which is one of the most inclusive gyms throughout Wales and was officially opened by Paralympic Champion Matt Skelhon in June 2011.  The Challenge Your Bounderies project based at Coed-y-Brenin is regarded as the most Inclusive Mountain Biking project throughout Wales if not the UK and  the Gwynedd Air Target Club has been endorsed by Matt Skelhon & James Bevis as being a top class shooting facility. The newly formed wheelchair basketball club is open to disabled people with physical impairments and non disabled people allready has 30 members enjoying this fantastic sport.

Whether you are looking for a healthy lifestyle, the opportunity to socialise and make new friends, keep fit, or strive to be a future participant in the Paralympics or Special Olympics there should be something there for you.

If you are a coach or a volunteer there is also the UK Disability Inclusion Training Course (UK DIT) which enables leisure providers & coaches to gain awareness and confidence to deliver inclusively. Courses run several times a year so please contact me for upcoming dates.

In order to help support clubs deliver good practice & quality sessions, Disability Sport Wales have introduced insport which is available for Clubs, NGB’s & Local Authorities. This is a four tiered accreditation award (ribbon, bronze, silver, gold) Look out for the insport  logo alongisde the clubs.

If you would like further information on disability sport in Gwynedd as a participant, club, coach, or volunteer, then just give me a call or send me an email. (contact details bottom left of this page).

The website is frequently updated with news, events, and courses, so please check regularly.
